GET INVOLVED
Together we can make a difference
Donor-Advised Funds
A Donor-Advised Fund is a fundraising vehicle administered by a private charity like Amigos of the Planet. Created for the purpose of managing charitable donations on behalf of an individual, family or company, it provides an easy, cost-effective way to support the causes you are passionate about in Mexico and Latin America.
We offer donor-advised funds that are uniquely flexible:
- APF accepts the widest range of assets of any charitable organization.
- APF can make international grants and other types of specialized grants.
- APF offers a wide range of investment options.
- APF allows you to identify successors or charitable beneficiaries so that your donor-advised fund can exist in perpetuity.
- APF offers strategic direction, immediate tax advantages, flexibility, administrative and financial convenience.
TWO TYPES OF DONOR- ADVISED FUNDS
Depending on your personal goals, Donor-Advised Funds can be either endowed or non-endowed.
ENDOWMENT FUNDS
These funds guarantee that your philanthropic vision will benefit future generations by offering ongoing financial security for your favorite charitable cause or social issue in Mexico and Latin America. Fund assets are invested to generate income. However only a portion of the income is spent, with the remainder adding to principal growth.
NON-ENDOWMENT FUNDS
These funds help support nonprofits outside the U.S. while offering timely operational support for programmatic initiatives. Unlike an endowment fund, a non-endowment fund does not operate in perpetuity. Assets generated by the gifts to the fund are neither permanent nor invested.
SETTING UP A DONOR-ADVISED FUND
Donor-Advised Funds may be established by individuals, couples or families. Groups of friends can come together to established Donor-Advised Committee Funds. APF also offers Donor-Advised Corporate Funds to companies that want to inspire change in the communities and regions where they operate internationally. A Donor-Advised Fund can be established with a minimum $5,000 contribution. Once you establish your fund, you can continue to add to it anytime, receiving tax benefits with each new gift.

WHAT WE DO
Grantmaking
Overview
Grantmaking is a formal process used to distribute funds or other resources to nonprofits and community organizations. APF facilitates international grantmaking by connecting our donors to organizations in Mexico and Latin America that are having a significant impact in their communities, inspiring change, and weaving a stronger civil society.
APF is up-to-date on all IRS and Department of State regulations. We have the knowledge and expertise to identify excellent grantees in the fields of environment and social development, education and health. As a grantmaking foundation, we can also research and develop grant strategies and recommend timely grantmaking opportunities.
Grantmaking Process
APF grantees are typically identified by our donor advisors, who make grant recommendations. As an International Foundation, we have limited discretionary funds to distribute to our grantees. For these reasons, APF does not accept unsolicited nonprofit grant proposals.
